The American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) has a long history of collaborating with policymakers across the country to improve access to essential reproductive care and services. In 1985, we celebrated changes to Maryland’s insurance laws to increase access to care for individuals seeking fertility treatment. More recently, in 2023, we supported IVF and fertility preservation legislation, with mandates that became law in Texas, Montana, and Kentucky. And just last year in California, we worked to pass an IVF insurance mandate law. Our commitment to ensuring that patients can get the care they need remains unwavering, and we are prepared to support President Trump and his team in fulfilling their promise and commitment to make IVF universally affordable and accessible.
The administration’s openness to recommendations from the domestic policy team is a welcome signal of support for expanding access to IVF. As the leading professional organization representing IVF physicians and allied health staff, we look forward to engaging with the administration and Congress as they consider a topic that is of critical interest and importance to an increasing number of American families.
Drawing from our deep expertise in this field, we hope to see swift action and policy solutions that:
- Make meaningful, measurable, and substantive differences in expanding access to IVF treatments
- Are inclusive of all patients who need care
- Ensure that decisions about medical care are made by patients and physicians, not by bureaucrats, politicians, or insurance companies
- Ensure the care delivered meets modern standards of care and welcomes carefully evaluated innovations
