Increasing numbers of patients across all age groups continue to choose elective single embryo transfer (eSET), which critically decrease the risk of multiple births, with its use increasing to 75% of transfer cycles in 2019, up from 67.3% in 2018. Accordingly, among ART-conceived pregnancies, singleton births increased to 93% (2019) from 90% (2018) and twin births decreased to 7.0% in 2019 from 9.7% in 2018 and triplet births decreased to only 0.1% of all ART births in 2019, down from 0.2% in 2018.
SART President Valerie Baker, MD, said, “Each year, SART’s National Summary Report gives patients, professionals and the public the big picture view of the improvements and advances that have occurred in ART over the decades. We are proud of having created this resource in partnership with our member clinics. Their reporting makes it possible for us to accurately share these numbers.”
SART, The Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, is an affiliate of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). SART's member practices perform an overwhelming majority of the ART cycles in the United States.
